In this inclusive teaching guide, I synthesized all my knowledge gained in coursework and experience working with children to create my ideal inclusive teaching scenario. The purpose of this assignment was to show how I would ensure that my classroom is equitable for all learners, regardless of ability. I describe how I plan to communicate with parents and collaborate with colleagues to meet the diverse needs of my students. I include instructional strategies and lessons plans that will help meet the needs of students with varying abilities. As a special educator, I firmly believe that the inclusive classroom is best for most students, and this guide is my idea of the model inclusive classroom.

One of the assignments in my behavior management course was to create a behavior management plan for a student with challenging behaviors. The student I worked with was in 4th grade, but performing above grade level. His challenging behaviors were holding him back from being successful in school. I worked with his classroom teacher and him to create a behavior plan that would address the behaviors and make his school day more meaningful. Once I implemented the plan, we saw a huge difference in the student. Small adjustments like these can make all the difference for meaningful learning. In my opinion, being an educator committed to diversity boils down to understanding your students as individuals, and adapting your teaching to fit those needs.
